Chapter 1: What’s Going On In My Soul?
Belinda Sanders sat and stared at the pile of papers her boss had just placed on her desk, wondering why it was that on this particular day her usual sunny and confident disposition had failed her. She looked around her office at the mementos that had meant so much to her at one time and felt resentful. At 44 years of age, they were not the banners of accomplishments that she had hoped they would be, but only reminders that she was doing what everyone else around her was doing, just going through the motions. Painful memories of heartaches and missed opportunities flashed through her mind, and suddenly, without even being conscious of it, her eyes welled up with tears. The luxury of being alone would have afforded her the much needed space to cry out to God, but at that moment she tried to hold in a lifetime of frustration and disappointment. Finally, she could no longer ignore her emotions, and they imploded uncontrollably. Each breath was more labored than the last. Her fingertips pulsated rapidly, and she felt as if her heart was going to come right out of her chest. She was hyperventilating, and prayed that no one would walk past and notice.
