At the Well: 7 – When You’re Tired of Coming Back Empty

Scripture Anchor

“Please, sir,” the woman said, “give me this water! Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and I won’t have to come here to get water.”
— John 4:15, NLT

Soul Talk

Sometimes it’s not the burden itself—but how often we have to carry it—that wears us down.
The woman came to the well like she always did. Same time. Same shame. Same silence. She was tired of the pattern, but what choice did she have?

So when Jesus offers something different—living water—she speaks from a soul that’s been running on empty for a long time. “Please, sir… give me this water.” That wasn’t just about thirst. That was about a life that felt like it was stuck on repeat.

We’ve all had seasons like that.
Doing what’s expected. Getting through the day. Showing up, but slowly breaking inside.
You keep drawing from the same dry well—routine, performance, even religion—and wondering why it never feels like enough.

Jesus sees your weariness. And He’s not offering a patch or a pep talk. He’s offering living water—rest for your soul, peace for your mind, a kind of fullness that doesn’t depend on perfect circumstances.

If you’ve been pouring out and rarely poured into, this is your moment to say, “Please, Lord… give me this water.”

He’s ready to meet you right here.

Let’s Talk to God (Prayer)

Dear Lord Jesus,
I’m tired of going through the motions. I keep returning to empty places, hoping to feel whole. But You are the One who fills. I need the water only You can give—the kind that heals me from the inside out. Help me to receive it and rest in it. In Your powerful name, Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.

Key Questions to Reflect On

  • What “wells” have I been returning to that leave me empty?
  • Where is my soul running dry—and what might Jesus be offering me there?
  • What does it look like for me to receive His living water today?

Soul Work

Make a list of the areas in your life where you feel the most drained.
Now, next to each one, write this: Jesus, I invite You into this place. Fill me with Your living water.
