“Jesus said to her, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.’”

Soul Talk
Sadness can feel like a quiet, endless well inside—one we learn to carry with us, even when we’re smiling. Some sadness comes from what’s been done to us. Some comes from what we’ve lost—trust, time, relationships, dreams we buried without a funeral.
The woman at the well wasn’t just tired—she was worn out from a life of disappointment. Rejection had left its mark. Failed relationships had likely left her guarded. And abandonment? She knew the sting. She came to the well alone for a reason.
But Jesus didn’t meet her with pity—He met her with presence. He didn’t rush her pain or bypass her grief. He sat with her, spoke to her, saw her. That alone was healing. But then He offered more—living water. Not something to numb the sadness, but something to transform it.
Jesus still offers that to you today.
Maybe you’ve been abandoned by people who promised to stay. Maybe you’re carrying grief so private, no one would ever guess. But Jesus sees all of it. And He invites you to bring those tears, that heartbreak, that ache that has no words—and receive something deeper than relief.
You don’t have to “get over it.” But you also don’t have to stay stuck in it.
With Jesus, even your tears can water something new.
Let’s Talk to God (Prayer)
Dear Lord Jesus,
My heart is heavy, and the sadness feels overwhelming. Thank You for being the living water that satisfies when nothing else can. Help me to bring my grief to You honestly and to trust You to heal the broken places. Fill my well with Your peace and hope. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Key Questions to Reflect On
- What sadness or loss have you been carrying without sharing?
- How can you bring that sadness before God this week?
- What promises of hope can you hold onto when grief feels too heavy?
Soul Work
This week, give yourself space to grieve. Write a letter to Jesus, telling Him what hurts—even if the words feel messy. Then ask Him to sit with you in it. Don’t rush. Just be real.
