“Then Jesus wept.” — John 11:35 (NLT)

Soul Talk

Sometimes love ends with a door closing. Other times, it ends with silence, absence, or death—not just the physical kind, but the emotional deaths too. The death of a dream. The end of a future you thought was certain. The fading of “us” into “used to be.”

Grief is love with nowhere to go. And when it floods your chest, it can feel like the very thing you trusted to bring joy to your life is now draining it from you. The ache. The hollow mornings. The sudden tears you can’t predict or explain. It’s not just sadness—it’s loss, layered and loud.

But here’s the soul-saving part: “Then Jesus wept.” (John 11:35, NLT)

He didn’t quote a verse at the grieving sisters. He didn’t minimize their pain or hurry them along. He stood at the tomb—and wept. The Son of God let His tears fall in the face of death. And He’s still doing that with us.

Jesus weeps with you. Over what you lost. Over what never became. Over the fracture that broke your spirit.

So bring your grief to Him—messy, raw, and unfiltered. You don’t have to dress it up. Your sorrow is safe with Jesus. And even now, in the heaviness, He is holding you through it.

Let’s Talk to God (Prayer)

Dear Lord Jesus,
You know grief. You’ve wept before. You’ve stood in loss and felt the sting. So I bring You my sorrow today. The ache I can’t seem to name or fix. Thank You for not rushing me through it. Just be near. Cry with me if You have to. Hold me when I can’t hold myself.
In Your precious and powerful name, Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.

Key Questions to Reflect On

  • What am I grieving right now, even if I haven’t named it out loud?
  • How have I been taught to deal with grief—and is it helping or hurting?
  • What would it look like to grieve with Jesus instead of alone?

Soul Work

Let your tears be your prayer today. Find a quiet space and give yourself permission to cry. Don’t hold back.
Then, read John 11 slowly—notice how Jesus showed up in sorrow, how He stayed present with it.
Write down one way you need Jesus to show up for you right now—and invite Him into it.

Key Meditation Scriptures

  • Psalm 56:8 (NLT)“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle.”
  • Matthew 5:4 (NLT)“God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
  • Isaiah 53:3 (NLT)“He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief.”
