At the Well: 8 – When Fear Meets the Truth

Scripture Anchor

“Jesus said to her, ‘Go, call your husband, and come back.’ ‘I have no husband,’ she replied. Jesus said, ‘You’re right when you say you have no husband.’”
John 4:16-17, NLT

Soul Talk

Fear often keeps us standing at the edge, hesitant to step forward into the healing God offers. It whispers doubts, questions, and “what ifs” that freeze us in place. The woman at the well faced her own fears — not just about her past, but about what the future might hold if she truly met Jesus in her brokenness.

Jesus doesn’t rush her. He meets her gently, asking her to take small steps of honesty and trust. “Go, call your husband,” He says, knowing her story is complicated and uncertain. But by speaking truth, He begins to unravel the fear that’s kept her trapped.

Sometimes, the hardest part of healing is simply stepping into the water — stepping into God’s presence and allowing Him to meet us, even when we’re afraid.

Fear may be loud, but God’s invitation is louder. His living water refreshes and calms the soul, giving us courage to move forward, one step at a time.

Let’s Talk to God (Prayer)

Dear Lord Jesus,
Fear tries to keep me from fully coming to You. Sometimes I’m afraid of what healing will mean or what it will cost. Help me to trust Your gentle leading, even when the path is unclear. Give me courage to step into Your living water and find peace in Your presence. In Your powerful name, Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.

Key Questions to Reflect On

  • What fears hold you back from fully embracing God’s healing?
  • How can you take a small step toward trust this week?
  • What promises from God can help you quiet your fears?

Soul Work

Write down your fears related to healing or change. Then find one Bible verse that speaks peace to those fears and meditate on it daily.
